Greyhound Racing Is More Exciting At Southland Park
Come race with us! When it comes to greyhound racing, Southland Park has one of the largest kennel compounds in the nation and is widely known as one of the best greyhound racing programs in the country. If you’re playing to win, you’re in luck because Southland Park offers the highest purse in North American racing.
Southland Park opened its doors for the first time in 1956. For many years, the greyhounds raced only seasonally, from April until October, but as the popularity of the live greyhound races grew, the season was extended to year-round racing. This was made possible when the racing surface was fitted with an underground heating system.
Southland Park still holds one of the dog racing industry's all-time attendance and wagering records: September 24, 1981, nearly 21,000 people were in attendance, wagering over $1.3 million on that evening's racing performance. Even more impressive? Southland hosts the only million dollar day in greyhound racing during the Festival of Stakes.
